Well.....another weekend is slipping by.....
Another post to share another love of mine.....vintage cutlery!  I'm not sure where if when the love affair began....but my collecting of these wonderful pieces of history began a LONG time ago.
Not sure if it's the exquisite patterns that were once just common place or the worn patina that I'm drawn to.....but aren't they wonderful!  We are lucky enough to have a collection from my grandparents, brought originally with them out of necessity on their immigration from Holland.  My grandparents used them as young newly weds, my mother used them as a child and so did I....how wonderful!
So, my hubby asked me....what are you going to do with all these old forks and spoons?  Hmmmmm..."not sure" I replied..."can't I just have them?"  He blinked and said..."okaaaaay?!?
So, he doesn't share my passion, obviously, : ) but
I guess I could share!
On with the thinking cap, and I came up with some wonderful creations with my collection to share with others!
Below are the results......enjoy!

4 foot chalk painted ladder...
perfectly perfect...$45.00

 stained 6 foot ladder...awesome!
$65.00
holy, moly.....its FALL!  Yikes, where did the time go?  Its been kinda quiet on my blog.....but not so quiet in my brain, house or in my garage the past few months!  Friends, family and the odd road trip add up to me turning around and noticing the leaves are now yellow!  : )

I'm not sure quite where to start....hmmmm....maybe ladders, vintage cutlery, lovely chippy furniture, chalk paint......

Well, let's start at the top....ladders!  I really can't get enough of these!  I was drawn to them a looong time age in my studio and now the affair continues!  What to do with them?.....well, let's go!  The more rickety the better I say!  They are great as is propped up against a wall, or it could make a fantastic way to display quilting handi-work, or hang that throw for chilly nights.  I've added a few pics from my own home to demonstrate how awesome these pieces can work into a prim setting or in a modern home as a statement piece, as well!  I have a couple for sale, which I will list on the bottom of the post with pricing!  Enjoy every moment of the day!  terrie xox

Monday 29 April 2013

Well, today was the day...to gather those photo display ideas ive been telling you about!  First, i wanted to inspire your own creativity with some ideas from my own home.  The wonderful craft supplies just at our fingertips, can help us create one of a kind designs from our own stash of "stuff"  Often, the most unlikely items can be used in the most creative ways!  Try and look at things around you in a different perspective, and you will be surprised what you can come with!  A little wall-paper paste, scrap-booking paper, an old hinge, old castors, any thing metal  (old and new) the rustier the better ; ), an old chunk of wood and voila'!  Check out the items i came up with, and seriously, just from "stuff" i had!
i made this for my brother and his wifey for
their anniversary this past weekend...
a chunk of wood, paper, old hinge, priceless photo
and voila'!
LOVE!
i had this darling old bird cage...seriously, it holds a magnet!
yay!   i glued paper letters to magnet rounds and check
it out!  Really very cute, with the option to hold a plant
or cute bird inside!  The magnets spell...memories!
xox

This little grouping was created from a chick feeder and waterer!  Old, but so cute and not so ordinary now!  Old galvanized will also hold a magnet so a little hot glue, old buttons and my cute grand-daughters have a place to make me smile all day!  The feeder would also hold greeting cards!

Perfect for a spring display!
Now, go digging in your garage or shed!  The sky is the limit!  Enjoy!

Tomorrow I will post treasures for sale...hint...old tool box, robin red breast...

Stay tuned for some creative new ways to display your favorite photos!  If you're like me, i always find myself with a new pic of the grand-bebes or my kids that i just cannot resist but print!  i dislike the fridge display thing...so what to do?  i've come up with an idea!  Not quite done yet...but i think you'll like!    p.s...dont you just loooove weekends!   xo
VINTAGE DRESDEN PLATE QUILT...

aprox. 59"x59"
$225.00
humblenestprimitives@gmail.com

This might be a tough one for me to sell...what a history this darling totally vintage quilt has!  i found the original blocks in poor repair and set out to restore the fabrics in it the best way i could!  Each dresden was carefully re-appliqued to a fresh background of white cotton and then bordered/bound in complementary fabrics.  The fabrics in each dresden plate tell a story of vintage clothing, flour and sugar sacks from times gone by.  Precisely quilted with care and sandwiched with cotton batting, each block also displays a vintage button to complement the colors!  A true labor of love...both then and now!  Enjoy this piece of history in your nest!  : )

LITTLE SPRING PILLOW...
aprox.6"x6"...ENJOY!
$20.00
email-humblenestprimitives@gmail.com
...  such a cute vintage needlework!  I crave these little cuties!  Just imagine the time spent stitching these up!  Totally vintage and lovingly restored into a little charmer to rest up on a shelf, or sideboard!  Originally found in an unflattering and dusty, round frame, i used some inspiration from my wool stash to re-create this piece into a new thing of beauty!  Not complete without a vintage button! xox

(i think shes' even frowning!)
Not sure, but i think this is probably one of my most favourite re-do's...ever!  I had so much fun picking up this piece (Nance and i made a memory :), picking out the colour, and fixing up this beauty!  She looked a little rough and tired (don't we all sometimes) and needed a new lease on life!  A lick of paint, a little tlc and a discovered surprise when i opened and checked out the bottom drawer!  The bottom drawer is lined with cedar and would make a perfect storage compartment for gloves, mitts and scarves...maybe even flip-flops...in an entryway!  So many possibilities...so perfectly unique in every way!  Enjoy! xox

Button, button bracelets...

I spent a few days just hanging around in my sewing room and decided to play with ALL the buttons i have collected over the years.  I had all i needed to put together a bracelet or two (something id been planning for awhile now :)....and came up with these little sweeties!  I had a blast and thought id share some of my collection...since there is only so much time, only two wrists and too many bracelets..(although that has never stopped me before) and a ton more buttons where these came from!  They are adorable and never fail to attract a comment or two!  Each is unique, very fun and never can be replicated!...just like us!  Enjoy!
